My father was a medic in WW2 on Guadalcanal and Bouganville. He always told us when we asked him what he did in the war,that he spent it all in a foxhole. When asked how he got the Jap rifle during the war, his reply was that the Jap didn't know the foxhole was occupied and was more scares than him so he ran and left it behind. Then Bill Cosby came out with that album that had the story on it called "Medic". Dad laughed so hard because everything that Bill said in that story was everything dad had been telling us for years. Anyway, by the time I was older and realized those were 2 different islands, I thought I had him and he would finally 'fess up. So I asked him,"You never ever left your foxhole during the war?" Dad,"Nope"."So how did you get then from Guadalcanal to Bouganville? You had to leave your foxhole because they're TWO DIFFERENT ISLANDS!!!Now I GOTCHA" " I tunnelled." "Under the ocean?""Yep!" "And nobody found the tunnell?"And he gives me this crap-eating grin as he says,"Nope, I filled it in behind me as I went."
